My Poetry

Crossways

1987
I wrote this poem for one of my seventh grade classes. We were all sad that one of our favorite teachers was leaving the school so I wrote this poem to express our sentiment.

As you travel down the road of joy and sadness
you always tend to look behind you.

As you look, you see how much fun we've had,
as you travel down that long, dark road.

It's always hard to say goodbye,
but when people care for you it is twice as sad.

As you look back down the road again,
you see how much we love you, because we are your friends.

Pray for us and we'll pray for you,
wherever you are we'll always be with you.

And when you fall,
we'll be there to help you get up again.

And when you can go no further,
we'll be there to help you up and carry you.

Do your best in all you do,
never forget us and we'll never forget you.

And as you travel down the road of life,
fear not, for may our love and good tidings be with you always.
